Follow the directions that come with the prescription carefully. It's also a good idea to follow these steps:
- About 30 minutes ahead of time, clean and pat dry the area where applying Retin-A. Make sure skin is completely dry before starting. Retin-A applied over wet skin can irritate it.
- Wash hands when ready to apply the product.
- Rub a light covering of the cream over the area.
- Do not wash the area or apply anything else for at least an hour afterwards.
- Do not apply Retin-A near the eyes, nostrils, ears, mouth or any open or irritated areas.
NOTE: The new Retin-A Micro may be more convenient. It can be applied right away after the face is washed, without a 30-minute waiting period.
Missed Doses
Apply the missed dose as soon as remembered. Never apply a double dose or layer.
What If I Take Too Much Retin-A?
Overdosage is not likely with Retin-A, but if Retin-A topical is swallowed, call a doctor, an emergency room or a poison control center right away.
Retin-A Storage
Retin-A should be stored in its original, tightly closed container, at room temperature and away from heat, light and moisture. Keep this and all medication out of the reach of any children.
